Primary: The Day After
First Things First
A great big thank-you
for all the votes and support. I sincerely thank every person that was part of the campaign from beginning to end.
There were so many people that worked so hard for what they believed. This was a truly inspiring experience. A
grassroots campaign with limited finances garnered a large amount of support and that is something to be proud of. We
fell about 4,000 votes short of a win.
While we may have lost the primary election, we have not lost the momentum and conviction
to continue the fight for what is 'right'. The Common Sense
and Core Values that were the basis of our platform is something we will
carry forward into the future. We must all keep up the fight and continue to inspire other citizens to get involved
and be a part of the process.
We will continue the fight and continue to be involved in several ways to ensure that
our beliefs have a voice! I truly considered all of us a team that must continue to work together to protect the constitution,
protect our principles, and ensure the American dream for future generations.
Future
I have been asked over and over if we will be running again
in 2012. I have been urged by many to seriously consider this as round one and prepare for the next round.
It is much too early for my
family to consider this scenario only one day after the primary. We have not made any formal decisions and we will seek
advice and support in the future around this topic.
The immediate focus will be on doing what we can
during the general election to ensure that all general election candidates respect and support the issues around our
'Common Sense' and 'Core Values' platform. Tom White's
Campaign Comments
Tom White's campaign released a statement immediately after the primary. White’s campaign manager,
Ian Russell tells Nebraska Watchdog the Sakalosky
voters are “free agents” who are frustrated with politics as usual. More importantly Russell says that big 37%
wasn’t a vote for Sakalosky but “a vote against Terry.”
I feel this is an
insult to me, our campaign, all of our volunteers that worked so hard, and every voter that cast a vote for me. I feel
that Ian Russell owes me and all my supporters an apology with this comment. He has completely dismissed anything we
stood for, worked for, and earned. This is the type of arrogant thinking that citizens are tired of.
I would put the link to Tom
White's campaign email here, however, after checking his website we could not find one. The best we can do
is call his office and ask for an apology. In addition, please feel free to email the press and let them know your thoughts
as a supporter regarding these comments.

Future Newsletters
As promised, we will be
staying very involved and we have decided to continue our newsletter and website blog. Our expectation is to publish
a newsletter about once a month and break down the biggest issues facing our country. We will also continue the blog
as a more frequent way to continue the discussion and plan to add a discussion board.
But I ask that
we all stay involved at some level and continue to inspire others to stand up, pay attention, and become active!
Campaign
Still Working Hard Stood with the crew on 132nd and Dodge for 1 1/2 hrs and what a great time. Still
have crews working that area, Bellevue, Papillion, and many other areas. Only 2 1/2 more hours...so it's not too late
to get people out to vote! Regardless of the outcome, I thank everyone for their support!!! It has been truly inspiring.
Sign/Waives
and Polling Places Feel free to come out to 132nd and Dodge from 4-6:30pm for a campaign sign wave. Northeast
corner. Just finished sign wave at 168th and Center and had a great response. Getting good feedback from all the poll workers
we have stationed across the metro.
Election Night Party Stop by and say hello or join us for the evening at
our Election Night Party. It will be held at the German American Society lower hall (120th Street between L and Center Streets),
anytime after 7pm. Hope to see you there.
Out working the polling places this morning and getting a
great response. We are headed out to 168th and Center for a sign wave at 1pm...feel free to come and join us.
The turnout looks to be fairly low in the first 4 hours, so make sure to get everyone out to vote! 8 hrs to go.
Feel free to pick-up one of
our signs and wave to people after you vote. You just need to be 200ft from the polling entrace. Most of the polling
stations have little yellow cards at the point where you can stand. If there is no sign, shoot us a message and we'll
get you a sign.
Good Response at the Polls!
We have received an excellent
response so far at the polls. So many people have stopped to say thank-you to our campaign workers and myself.
More than half have given a thumbs up or a honk as they drive by. Great response, so keep it up for 8 more hours!!!
Stop by and say hello or join us for
the evening at our Election Night Party. It will be held at the German American Society lower hall (120th Street between L
and Center Streets), anytime after 7pm. Hope to see you there.
The Polls open in less than 30 minutes.
I will be starting out at 20844 Bonanza, the Lord of Life Church, then on to my polling place on 204th at the Luthern Church.
Keep up the good work, make the one extra phone call or email, it all counts.
18 Hours until the polls close. I went on the Channel Six midday
show live today and what a very nice crew. You can see the replay on Cox Channel 4. We will also be
on Fox 42 later this evening. There is great momentum and we are very optimistic. Keep networking and get out
the vote, we are almost there!
There are only 24 hours
left until the Primary. With an expected low voter turnout, please be sure to contact all your friends and family today
and get them to the polls tomorrow. Every vote is going to be critical...now is the time we need your help!
This race is very close and
we have an opportunity to 'Send Washington the Message' that you have 'Had
Enough' of what is going on in D.C., especially with the spending and debt. Our expectation is a
result that may be too close to call. Today, you can make the difference and help with the voter turnout for
a win tomorrow!
The 'Lee Terry' Mailer
This
weekend, Lee Terry mailed a postcard to voters speaking about how he wants to cut spending and reduce debt. Let's
remember the amount spending he voted for in his career and the willingness to have government intervene in the private
markets:
Voted for the TARP, Bank/Auto Bailouts
Voted for Cash for Clunkers
Voted
for record spending throughout Bush years
These are the top three but it doesn't end there. These were the wrong votes
that has increased spending and has substantially increased the debt of our nation. It's time to say 'No' to this record and let the established career politicians know that you
have 'Had Enough'!
Election Night Party
You are invited to stop by and join us for an 'Election Night Party'.
Our campaign will be at the
German American Society lower hall after 7pm.
Thanks to everyone that has assisted our campaign over the last year and we hope you
will come out and celebrate on election night!
Matt Wins Straw Poll Against Lee at Candidate Forum
Matt
Sakalosky won the straw poll at the Town Hall Candidate Forum last night at Papillion High School hosted by
the 912 Project Nebraska.
(Note:
This was an unscientific poll conducted by the 912 Project Nebraska. Attendees of the forum were given a ballot of all
the candidates/races and allowed to vote once for each race represented on the ballot.)
US
Congress 2nd Dist:
Matt Sakalosky - 50%
Lee Terry - 47%
Tom White - 3%
Have You Had Enough?
Matt's message
was centered around government spending, debt, and choosing republican candidates that have the courage to stand strong on
traditional republican party principles.
Our country is on an unsustainable spending spree:
-We are 13 Trillion Dollars in Debt
-We will have at least a $1 Trillion each year for the next decade
-Additional government spending is on it's way
-This is not American Exceptionalism, we can do better!
So have you had enough of the
spending and debt?
Our taxes are going up as a result
of the spending:
-Capital gains
to go up to 25%, will stifle the economy
-Expire
Bush tax cuts, stifling economic recovery
-Local
governments are raising taxes too, less money in your pockets
-The feds are floating a new VAT tax, 15-20% on all purchases
-Cap and Trade is a new tax on all energy you use
-Have to cut taxes to spur economy, we do not want government shovel ready jobs, let American business and the American
worker be the catalysts in leading us back to economic recovery!
So have you had enough of being taxed on all that you do?
Our Current
Representative has Voted for some of this:
-Voted for the $700 Tarp, Auto/Bank bailout
-Voted for the Bush record breaking budgets and debt
-Cosponsored raising the CAFE standards, costing you thousands
-Promised term-limits on himself, now ignoring this pledge
-Introduces health bill usurping
State's rights!
-Passionate
support of FCC and free broadband for 1/3 of country
With the out-of-control spending that is going on in Washington, is it really a surprise that the current leadership
is looking for ways to find 'additional revenue'? Government revenue equals higher taxes.
Do they
realize that hiking up our taxes will only serve to stifle the economy? Do they realize how that will perpetuate
unemployment and delay an economic recovery?
It is no surprise that Obama's jobs bill has
not really done much to stimulate job growth. The shovel ready jobs just aren't cutting it. The idea that
government creates jobs is a false one. They need to get out of the way and let American business lead us back to recovery.
We need lower taxes and less government. Let's take a lesson from Reagan and see if that works for a 'change'.
The sad part about a faltering economy is that is does not hit everyone equally. Public sector jobs are
comparably doing very well compared to the rest of the economy. The government never does with less...they only ask
for more. This prevailing attitude is best displayed by the video below:
There will be a Town Hall Candidate Forum next week in Papillion. I will be speaking, along with other
candidates such as State Sen. Tony Fulton, Don Stenberg, Mayor David Black of Papillion, and many more. A "Straw
Poll" will be taken so we need you there.
We all know about the the 'Cornhusker Kickback', the
'Louisiana Purchase', and the bully tactics used to get the health care bill passed . We forget the same
thing has happened with the Cap and Trade Bill.
The Bully Tactics People
have forgotten about how the EPA may have squashed an internal report critical of global warming. Alan Carlin,
(primary author of the 98-page EPA report and 38 year veteran of the EPA), told CBSNews.comthat his boss,
McGartland, was being pressured. "It was his view that he either lost his job or he got me working on something else,"
Carlin said. "That was obviously coming from higher levels." Al McGartland, said in an email message to
a staff researcher, "The administrator and the administration has decided to move forward... and your comments do not
help the legal or policy case for this decision."
Carlin went on to conclude "that the data the
EPA was using was at least three years out of date and did not reflect the latest research...global temperatures are roughly
where they were in the mid-20th century. They're not going up, and if anything they're going down. The EPA also
did not consider that global temperatures have declined for 11 years, that Atlantic hurricanes will be unaffected, and that
there is little evidence that Greenland is shedding ice at expected levels. My personal view is that there is not currently
any reason to regulate carbon dioxide." CBS News Article
The Payoff The 'Cap and Trade' bill has it's own Cornhusker Kickback.
In a coal heavy state like Ohio, the vote of veteran Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur of Toledo was secured the Obama way, it
was bought. "They gave her what she wanted -- a new federal power authority, similar to Washington
state's Bonneville Power Administration, stocked with up to $3.5 billion in taxpayer money available for lending to renewable
energy and economic development projects in Ohio and other Midwestern states." Link to Washington Times Article
The Nobel Prize Winner You
would think that a Nobel Prize winner, Al Gore, would be able to eloquently lay out a logical argument and defend his
'Man-made' global warming theories. But he continues to refuse to debate the issue. Watch this priceless
video of Al Gore doing his best to avoid an 'O'Reilly/Factor' reporter.
Lee went to Matt and wagged his finger, something he is now denying. He also stated
that Matt was lying about him on his website.
However, when asked by media and on KFAB, he won't
give any details. His campaign manager said it was because Matt called him a liberal.
It is true, on the website we paint him as a 'Liberal Progressive Republican'
and prove through a series of issues why this is true. These are facts we stand behind for it is his voting record.
Matt told Lee and his staffer Scott Carter that if there are any inaccuracies on the facts, please let Matt know
and he will personally ensure the corrections are made. We haven't heard from their camp yet.
Even more disturbing, Lee stated on KFAB last week that it was Matt's
supporters that iniated the incident at the Tea Party Express and that Matt's wife Theresa had her facts wrong.
Anyone that knows
Matt's wife will vouch for her most sincere honesty in all things at all times. It is Mr. Terry
that has his facts wrong. It is quite disingenous and insulting to insinuiate otherwise.
We all know that it was Congressman Terry that approached me, spoke
his peace, then left...he is being dishonest. To discredit my wife is also disgusting behavior.
We were sent a picture from someone who caught the finger wagging
incident as he was withdrawing his finger. In the matter of 'Lee Said, She Said', it's clear we should
believe what 'She Said'.
Just wanted to thank all the concerned citizens that came by and said hi and offered support and encouragement for
our campaign at the Tea Party Express Rally. It was inspiring to listen to the stories and passions that people
throughout our area shared with us. I would also like to thank all those who assisted in hosting the Tea Party
Express group.
In the wake of the passage of the health care bill, we are beginning to see what is in the long range plans for health care.
As I, and many others have warned, this is just a first step to universal care fully run by the government. The process
is called incrementalism. This is a bad bill altogether and it still does not fundamentally address any of the issues
facing our health care system. But then again, that's not what this was about.
I just finished speaking
today with 2 hospital CEO's and one Chief Financial Officer. Their question to me: how do we survive this? This
bill is going to raise taxes, reduce reimbursement to health care providers, and ration care.
It's
not too late to turn back. I will support and actively work to repeal this atrocity and propose true ideas that will
arrest inflationary costs in our health care system. Part of the problem is governement and the solution is not more
government! Read my health care white paper to see some of the angles we need to pursue for true reform.
Here is an excerpt that quanitifies the thought process of today's Democratic leadership:
We have all heard about the tactics being used by Nancy Pelosi
to pass the Health Care bill in the House. The unsightly tactics highlight the difficulty that most representatives
are having swallowing the details of the bill. The type of changes being proposed, if enacted, would fundamentally destroy
our private health care system. It will also provide federal funds for abortion. But most importantly, it will
unconstitutionally rewrite the contract that citizens have with their government.
As details continue to change minute to minute leading up to a possible Sunday
passage of the current bill, you still have time to call and make your voice heard.
Lee Terry's Passionate Support of Government Solutions
At
the Digital Inclusion Summit in Washington today, U.S. Regulators are wanting to mandate free and low cost broadband
internet service for a third of our country. The FCC also stated there would also be a recommendation to
launch a Digital Literacy Corps of volunteers who would provide training to communities with low rates of adoption. (click
here for the Reuter's article released today)
Lee Terry was invited to speak at the
Digital Inclusion Summit in Washington. He said he is passionate about ensuring broadband access to all Americans.
In this time of alarming spending and debt, get ready to hold on to your wallets once again!
Speaking and doing
are all too often different things in today's politics. Just a couple months ago, Lee commented on the President's
State of the Union address: "As a fiscal conservative President Obama has
my full support to hold the line on spending and reduce our ever-increasing national deficit. I also agree with President
Obama that we must create jobs and job growth for small businesses—that is key to getting our economy back on track.
At the same time I am deeply concerned with the trillions of dollars that will be added to the national debt over the
next several years. And the amount of taxes increases, especially in the last year is mind-boggling.” Well Congressman Terry, you have voted for much
of that spending and debt that we are leaving our children. You were part of the Republican Congress earlier in the
decade that spent at record levels with a Republican President. You voted for the TARP bill and have spent our hard
earned tax dollars on the companies that were too big to fail...such as the big banks, the car companies, etc. Then
you passionately supported the Cash for Clunkers program, which intervened in the free markets and again supported the very
auto companies you bailed out just a short time ago. This is after you mandated new CAFE standards to the car companies
which caused them to spend billions in research and development. And here you go
again being passionate about mandates, (which just like the $50 sewer fee we will all be paying soon), we might as well
resign ourselves to paying more for our internet service. It doesn't matter if it's a tax or a mandate, we pay
the bill!
Over a decade ago, you passionately spoke about term limits and only
serving a couple terms in office. There is a pattern of rhetoric that does not match your actions. A fiscal
conservative, I think not.
Regardless of the energy source, the government wants to control your energy use! Whether
it is oil for the automobile or electricity for our homes, the current Congress is attempting to put legistlation in place
to punish your energy use; this legislation is called 'Cap and Trade'. It has more accurately been dubbed 'Cap
and Tax'.
Since the 1960s, the environmentalists have railed against every kind of energy...oil, coal, nuclear,
etc. We all want a clean environment, but we also need energy. If we relied on the environmentalists, we would
be using candle power in our homes at night. Their latest argument: global warming is man-made. However, man-made
global warming is just the latest excuse to be able to tell you how to live.
The theory has come crashing
down. We have all seen the recent uncovering of the blatant attempt at 'lying' to bolster the 'man-made
global warming theory' because the evidence certainly does not back up the 'theory'. They will not let facts
get in the way.
Even with the latest crumbling of the global warming theory, the liberals march on.
This is what it will mean to you in real terms: To meet the Obama administration’s
targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions, some researchers say,
in order to reach that goal, Americans may have to experience a sobering reality: gas at $7 a gallon. Our current Administration
and Congress is well on it's way to setting the amount of energy each and every one of us can use.
Since
when is it the under the President's authority to tell us how much we will pay for gasoline and how much we will use?
This is blatant and arrogant thinking that extends beyond the bounds of our President and/or Congress.
Lee Terry claims to be 'light green'.
Let's see if he is willing to give us a definition of what that is. After the Hill-Terry bill, it will be hard to
trust any progressive Republicans on energy issues. Does he agree with what Sarah Palin has been proclaiming over the
last year and half?
